holiday season in full swing

Posted on November 30th, 2005 in Nguyen's Desk | 8 Comments »

Well, it is that time of the year again when we are pressured in to spending lots of money for gifts for all those folks we love in our lifes. Is it just me or does it seem to get harder to buy gifts for people with each passing year? The saving grace for me each year is the good ‘ol gift certificate. I know that a gift certificate shows a complete disregard to being unique in terms of gift giving. But I think it is better than giving someone a gift that they don’t want to keep or worse yet don’t like. Perhaps I can find some nice gifts by using the ton of Amex points that I’ve amassed. So many choices so little time.

Kuwait City doesn’t get into the Xmas spirit for obivious reasons. So for me it seems just like any other month that I have spent here. At least the weather is not blazing hot anymore during the winter months. I am thinking about getting a little tree for my hotel room. I already have a chocolate Santa Claus that I picked up in Germany. The way I see it is that the sooner Xmas rolls around the sooner I get to come home.

If you are out there spending your hard earned cash…just remember that Nguyen would like all the latest and greatest gadgets on the market. But if you can’t buy those nice gadgets…I’ll take world peace and happiness.

Thanksgiving 2005

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! After many hours of preparing our dinner with my mom, I think it took a total of 30 minutes for everyone to finish eating. Overall, everyone had a great time. We started the day off with of course, watching a little football and the food network. That was topped off by the traditional viewing of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and to compliment the day, silly dog tricks and the continuous snacking of chips, olives, cheese and crackers.

Please check out some pictures of our day together. Hope everyone is well, and for most of you, I will see you next weekend!

hooked on LOST

It has been sometime since I have been hooked on a TV show. Star Trek: The Next Generation was a show I was really into and stayed current with. What I enjoy about watching ‘Lost’ is the flash back in time for each of the key characters. This makes you understand their actions and train of thought throughout the episode and helps you sort of tie it all together. The addition of new characters is pretty neat as well. The island in season 2 appears to be quite crowded with all sorts whack jobs. So far I think this “island” is some sick experiement watched over by a group of sick whackos who have to much time on their hands. But it may not turn out to be that way. The first season actually has not even aired yet in Kuwait. Showtime carries it over here. I downloaded season one and part of season 2 from Itunes. The cost is manageable at $1.99 per episode. The quality of the video is so so. I guess if you were watching in on an Ipod it would be excellent.

Bottom line though this show is really good for those of you that haven’t seen it yet. For everyone else what do you think will happen next?
