christmas day in kuwait

I hope that everyone received what they wished for this year from Santa. My world peace didn’t come through for some reason so I’ll have to hold out for next year. Hopefully Santa won’t forget. It has been raining non-stop since this morning. Most Kuwaitis have said that it hasn’t been quite “winter” this season since it has been unseasonably warm (average temp. in the 70’s) so far and they have had little rain. Well, be careful for what you wish for. The temperature has dropped and this rain is going to hang out for a day or two.
Have I celebrated Christmas? Yes and no. I wished my wife a Merry Christmas yesterday and found out that the gifts that we both ordered from AMEX were shipped to my old address in Chicago. If I hadn’t called my brother yesterday I probably would’ve had to wait a few more weeks to get that update from him. I guess the gifts arrived a week ago but my brother “forgot” to mention it to me or Sarah. At least Sarah and I know that our gifts did come in the mail. My Christmas dinner consisted of eating at the hotel restaurant. I hit that buffet pretty hard since it wasn’t cheap. The quality of the food was so so but what really gets me going is the fact that I am staying in a 5 star hotel and the food is just at a 1 star level. Go figure.
New Years is now only a few days away. There won’t be any dancing or toasting of champagne at the hotel. I guess the religious leaders here have pushed their weight on this one and celebrations of any kind are frowned upon. I guess several years ago it was a different story with most major hotel throwing big bashes to ring in the New Year. If you are going to be out and about remember to drink one for me.
