amman, jordan

I just wrapped up a 4 day trip to Amman, Jordan.  My company was an exhibitor at the SOFEX 2006.  Of course it wasn’t all work all the time.  I did manage to head down to the Dead Sea on my first day in Jordan.  Talk about a neat experience.  First of all the Dead Sea is over 400m below sea level.  Secondly, the entire area has an abundance of biblical significance.  I didn’t swim (float) in the Dead Sea but watching the folks that were in the water was cool.  One of the companies that we deal with in Jordan hosted a very nice reception the following evening at the Movenpick Resort by the Dead Sea.  The reception was so so but the scenery was truly magnificent.  I took some photos of the sun setting over the horizon (check them out in the photos section). The other tourist site that I wanted to visit was Petra.  Unfortunately I didn’t have the time to do so but I have a feeling that I will get another opportunity to head back to Jordan for business.   If I do head to Jordan I am bringing my lovely wife with me.

doggy day care

Sammy has been attending doggy day care for several weeks now. I think that it is money well spent. First of, he is not cooped up at home while Sarah is at work. Secondly, he gets to socialize with other dogs. Lastly, the trainers there help us with his “seperation anxiety”. All reports indicate that his anxieties are slowly being corrected. This place is pretty awesome they have 2 webcams in the indoor play areas where you can watch (via the internet) your dog during the day. Below is an image I downloaded from one of the webcams. As you can see the play areas are very large. The dogs are grouped based on their social behavior and size. This place also has an outdoor play area and seperate rooms when the dogs need their rest.  If you have a place like this in your area you should check them out.

bad tv

Watching TV in Kuwait is very painful.  The hotel I am staying at has about 3 dozen channels off the dish.  A good dozen channels are Arabic only so I can’t even watch those to begin with.  The other channels seems to show the same shows every other third day.  It feels like I am in a twilight zone episode.  The only upside is that I get to watch some German programming that helps me stay current with the language.  Also, getting to watch some soccer matches of my favorite German team (Bayern Munich) is a plus.  Other than that the TV at the hotel sucks!
