Spring has sprung!

Hi everyone. Hopefully everyone is having a wonderful spring. I actually had a chance to mow the lawn this evening. I sort of ran out of gas though, so I’ll have to finish that up this weekend.

Nguyen recently (and is in transit as I type this) left for Cairo and will return next week sometime. It’s really great having him around now. After he returns, Nguyen will be working out of Oshkosh, which means more time at home!! We’re so happy about this. And, we’ll be able to come to Chicago more.

Have fun everyone in Seattle and we will see you on Mother’s Day weekend!!

cellphone in church

Ok. I haven’t been this ticked in years.  I attended Easter services yesterday at the church down the street from my hotel in Kuwait.  The place was jammed with people…arm pit to arm pit.  It was bad enough that most of the folks around me failed to shower prior to coming to church (I know that it has nothing to do with being in God’s house) but there were idiots that did not turn their cellphones off.  Not only didn’t they not turn of their phones they had the gall to answer incoming calls and start talking like they were at the local Starbucks.  There was a guy about 3 people over that received several phone calls during the service.  After the third call I gave him the “evil eye” and was ready to punch his lights out.  Again, I know that I am in a house of worship and shouldn’t have angry thoughts but it was just getting ridicoulous.  The “evil eye” finally got his attention and he turned his phone off.  People - please have some respect and turn off your phones in church or any other house of worship.

dubai 2006

This week I flew to Dubai for 2 days.  I had to leave Kuwait since my CAC expired and had to get a visitors visa for the remainder of my stay here.  On this trip I made it a point to go out and see some of the sights.  I took a desert safari trip which was a total blast.  The entire trip lasted around 6 hours.  We all rode in Land Rovers out to the dunes and became first hand witnesses to some incredible desert driving.  Once that was all done everyone had the option to do ride a camel around a bit.  I passed on the camel riding since I will have that opportunity in a few weeks when I head to Egypt again.  The evening ended with a buffet style dinner and a performance by a belly dancer out in the desert.  The cost was $70USD.
The following day, prior to my flight back to Kuwait, I took a tour of Dubai by bus.  They drove us around to all the highlights of Dubai.  I was truly amazed at the scale and ambition of the on going construction projects.  This is actually the best time of year to travel to this region since it is still cool.  If you are ever thinking of travelling to Dubai I highly recommend it as a nice tourist destination.  I uploaded some photos from this Dubai trip.
