The hippo has gone through a major overhaul with the help of Olav Bjorkoy. Take the hippo for a ride. Tell me what you think of the new design, layout and overall feel of the site. More post to come…
Univ of Wisconsin - Oshkosh, the Y, and the Grand Opera put together the first annual Dragonboat Race on the Fox River this past weekend. How did this all come about? Me racing in another dragonboat race? One of my coworkers handed me a flyer 2 months ago after I raved about the Chicago Dragonboat. I immediately saw a potential to form a team of kick a#$ employees to take on the town and whatever competition was out there. After panning the flyer around a week or so I start getting folks interested and a few weeks after that we had a fullfledged team.
This event was very well organized. They had captain’s meetings and practice session for folks to get used to the paddling techniques. Thumbs up to the organizers!
On race day my team placed 8th place out of 30 teams overall. Not to shabby for a crew of office workers. My team was in the fastest division through out all three heats, so that says a lot about the level of motiviation and dedication we brought to the event. The weather could have been a bit nicer but rain does seperate the boys from the men or girls from the women. I have a feeling that next year’s event will be not only larger but I am sure there will be more teams from my company participating.
So if you haven’t experienced a dragonboat race yourself yet…keep on the look out for one to come to your neck of the woods soon.
Ok. I have had my you know what busted by a ton (ok, a few) of people for not updating the blog. I can’t really use the excuse of not having enough “time” but time does seem to slip by when you are not paying attention. So what have I and Sarah been up to since the last post in May? Let’s see:
1. Anne (Sarah’s twin) got married to Jason in Florida on August 12.
2. I have travelled a bit since coming back from Kuwait. (Only US travel for now)
3. We got a fence put in and went in it with our neighbors to save a few bucks. It is black rod iron and stands 4 feet tall.
4. I bought a Canon Digital Rebel XT. It is a pretty sweet entry-level DSLR with more bells and whistles then I know how to use at the moment.
5. My cousin Thu got married (also August 12) and they had almost 400 people at their reception. That is crazy!!
6. Sarah and I participated in a Dragonboat race in Chicago with team United (the airline). My cousin Lisa works for them so we got seats on the boat. Check out the pics.
I did a quick color change up and am using the K2reloaded theme again. If you are reading this entry - thank you for coming back. Tell your friends, neighbors, and anyone that cares about the “hippo” - that the hippo is back!
