No I am not talking about some mystical creature from a J.R. Tolkien book. Still can’t figure it out? We use a dish washing detergent that is called “Fairy” to wash our hands before we enter the chow hall. I just thought about it today and found it funny. We use toilet paper to dry our hands after using some Fairy.
I just wanted to let everyone know that I am well here in lovely Iraq. It took many months to finally to get me and my soldiers here. As many of you know I left in June to head to Puerto Rico to train with my new unit. Then we all flew to Ft. Hood, Texas, to begin mobilization training. Wow, that was a weird 60 days. I found out more things on this battalion then I cared for. On the positive note, I will go back to my old unit in Wisconsin and don’t have to deal with the drama that is ever so persistent in this unit. More on that subject another time.
My current location is south of Baghdad. My detachment has a total of 24 soldiers including me. Eleven are here with me and the rest are at several other locations. The living conditions are so so. It is basically a sea hut. The food is edible and free. Every once in awhile they whip up something decent (ie. Jambalaya). There is a tiny PX here and it doesn’t really have much. The convoys that come through here pickup things they need for their treks north and south. Other than that life on the FOB is good. Besides complaining about it won’t make it any better.
I have been asked by quite a few folks if it is safe where I am at. The short answer is yes. Then again are you safe where you are at now? Being safe is relative of course but being in Iraq does put me at a greater risk for harm. So I do take steps to minimize the risk for me and my soldiers.
If you want to send me care packages leave a message for me and I’ll email you my address over here.
