When you are in the Army you have maintain a “rigid state of flexibility”. Like our favorite claymation character Gumby. Why do I mention something like that? Last week I was told that our deployment was shifted to the right by 90 days. This week we have been told that it is on “like donkey kong”. Geez. The one rule I have seemed to have forgotten from my days in the active Army is that the “first report is always wrong”. Shame on me for not remembering that small detail.
I was all excited thinking that I had an extra 90 days at home. Oh well, I am ready to get the deployement started. The sooner my unit deploys the sooner we can come back to our families. Stay tuned for potential new changes…lol
This week I flew to Dubai for 2 days. I had to leave Kuwait since my CAC expired and had to get a visitors visa for the remainder of my stay here. On this trip I made it a point to go out and see some of the sights. I took a desert safari trip which was a total blast. The entire trip lasted around 6 hours. We all rode in Land Rovers out to the dunes and became first hand witnesses to some incredible desert driving. Once that was all done everyone had the option to do ride a camel around a bit. I passed on the camel riding since I will have that opportunity in a few weeks when I head to Egypt again. The evening ended with a buffet style dinner and a performance by a belly dancer out in the desert. The cost was $70USD.
The following day, prior to my flight back to Kuwait, I took a tour of Dubai by bus. They drove us around to all the highlights of Dubai. I was truly amazed at the scale and ambition of the on going construction projects. This is actually the best time of year to travel to this region since it is still cool. If you are ever thinking of travelling to Dubai I highly recommend it as a nice tourist destination. I uploaded some photos from this Dubai trip.
